  • Where's the alpha?

Why isn't my fire/smoke having an effect on the alpha channel?

    Hey,

There are a few fire modes and by default the Fire will use Fully visible which will not produce alpha. You can swtich to the other ones and should be able to get the alpha channel. You can find more about the different modes here - https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4M...nderFire-Color

I'm totally confused. Is it possible to give alpha to my current simulation, or do I need to tweak parameters and resimulate?

No need to resimulate, the fire modes are a render option, just pick "Use Own opacity" for example and you should have alpha.

You will need to adjust the curve probably. You can take a look at how the fire preset looks like and use it as a reference.

I made this by simply starting with the fire preset. The only thing I changed was how it spreads. Why would the grid box be rendering (pure black) without any volumetrics visible?

Oh, wait a minute. I just started a new file and things are different.
