  • Simulation Question

As part of a project I'm doing I have to animate a ship going through the ocean. When I run the simulation I don't see the wake and trails until about 3 seconds in.

Is there a way to do a simulation but have it start all the effects at the beginning instead of waiting for the simulation to run to get there?

If you simulate the whole things once, then you would be able to either:
    - Restore - continue a simulation from a certain timeline frame - if you want to render the pre-roll, this will be a good options.
    - Load & Start - pick a cache file as a starting state for the simulation - it could be any cache from any simulation, but in your case you could use one cache from your simulation (that has grid velocity, particle velocity for all particle systems, or ideally - just a Backup frame - it would say it's a backup frame in the Cache File Content box when you load it).

Check more info about these buttons here: https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4M...uid+Simulation

Hi Svetlin. I decided to use the ocean sim where none of the "simulation stuff" shows up until around 140 frames into it.

Having said that I want to load the ocean sim into an empty Maya scene as a Maya reference. How can I load in the ocean sim reference so that frame 140 of the sim starts at frame 0 of the empty scene?

        Hope this makes sense.

Hey, sounds like a job for the Load & Start I mentioned above. Does this work for you?

Hey Svetlin. I pressed the Load button and selected the specific frame to start and it started doing the simulation over again and it looks wrong:

Original sim at frame 336 (I want this frame to be frame 1 in the referenced master scene):

This is what the simulation looks like after pressing Load and selecting the frame:

Ah, could it be that the speed of the container in the scene is different between frame 1 and frame 336?

                Ocean_sim.ma (frame 336)

                Master_scene.ma
                Ocean_sim.ma (referenced)

I want frame 336 of the Ocean_sim.ma to be frame 1 in the Master_Scene.ma

Pressing the Load button and choosing ocean_0336.aur automatically starts a new simulation and I get the results from the second screen capture above.

The speeds are the same in both scenes.

Maybe it might help if I share the scenes:

                    Ocean_Sim.ma

                    Master_Ref.ma

Yess, there is some problem with Load-ing an ocean simulation. Will see what happens and will ping you again.

Hey, found it! There was a bug - Restore worked correctly, but Load did not behave properly with moving containers with Fillup For Ocean.

The fix will go into tomorrow's nightlies here: https://nightlies.chaos.com/#/phoenix5maya/nightly

                          Thank you for reporting this!

So the fix for the load will be in the nightly build for 01/12/22?
