  • use exact colours for fire.

im trying to add some "fire" to a stylised animation which uses a set of brand colours.

ive put the two brand colours i wish in the gradient for the fire in volumetric render settings, but the colours are super pumped up.

ive disabled fire lights, set fire multiplier to 1... not sure what else to change...

on a related note, why does the colour picker go from 0-100 on the rgb values and not 0-255 like normal? makes matching colours very annoying.

Oh, try turning off the Physically Based option - it add black body radiation to the shader: https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4MAX/Render+Fire

How does your color picker look? Mine goes from 0-1 actually...

yeah i kinda got my head round the shading thing, although i must still be doing something wrong as i need my fire multiplier on 0.1 to get close to the actual colours shown in the gradient. thats with "physically based" set to 0.

regarding the colour picker, yeah i mis-remembered, its 0-1 not 0-100... still annoying since the other pickers in max (and photoshop) go to 255. im sure you have a good reason for it though..

Ah, try switching between the 3 Fire Opacity modes - especially the Fully visible mode will add together the colors as the rays pass through the volume, so it would become quite bright. The Own Opacity mode would probably work better.

Honestly, the range of the color picker is some legacy and I doubt it was done on purpose this way. Let me check the V-Ray color pickers and see how we could change ours to 0-255...
