  • ways to produce liquids

this is a way low-level question, but i was wondering about the different methods of creating a liquid and larger or smaller amounts of liquid.

i think there's 2 ways, 1 have an emitter with outgoing velocity (units/second) or having a grid filled up with liquid.

if i want to increase the total amount of liquid in a simulation over say 200 frames, i would either 1) increase outgoing velocity of the emitter and/or change the emitter size or 2) create a larger grid.

right now i'm experimenting with indoor waterfall feature, where the water comes down in streams, hits some steps and flows down the steps. if i wanted more water volume to flow over the steps, i could just increase the velocity from the stream emitters.

    thanks,

    Hey,

    Indeed you're spot on.

Additionally you can make an object and from its right-click Phoenix properties menu you can enable the "Initial Liquid Fill" option, this will fill the volume of the object with liquid particles at the start of the sim.

The other option would be to make an object, add it as an emitter to a liquid source that is using Volume Brush or Volume Inject modes, which will use the volume of the object for the emission rather than the sufrace.

cool! ah great, i thought initial fill was only on the grid. nice. also, wasn't completely sure when to use vol brush or vol inject. thanks!
