  • Phoenix Ocean Flattened

    Hello,

Can someone explain why the Phoenix 5 Ocean (PhoenixFDOceanTex) flattens when I introduce objects into the my scene? I'm working in 3ds Max 2023 ,32 GB of RAM, and12th Gen Intel Core processor.

    Thank you in advance,

    Kevin

Hmmm, could you check your Phoenix log file in C:\ChaosPhoenix and look for any [ERROR] or [WARNING] lines? It might be that the geometry you import takes up so much memory that there is not enough RAM left for the ocean to be displaced.

    Cheers!

      Hello Svetlin,

I'm using only 3,656,251 Polygons or 2,272,653 vertices. Below is the Warning text from the V-Ray log:

library "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\VR ay3d sMax2023\bin\plugins\vray_phoenix.dll": [loadLibEx] 127: LoadLibrary failed (127): The specified procedure could not be found.

      [15:38:20.388] Error : 1 error(s), 0 warning(s)

It also states:[15:39:12.201] Distributed rendering is not supported in production IPR mode.

I don't understand what is causing the issue. If you wish, I could send the 3ds Max file.

      Thanks!

      Kevin

Oh, something is wrong with the installation if vray_phoenix.dll can't be found. Could you try reinstalling Phoenix and also please pay special attention - there are different Phoenix installers depending on which V-Ray version you have - there is Phoenix for V-Ray 5 and different installer of Phoenix for V-Ray 6.

I believe your prognosis is correct which has to do with the fact that I incorrectly listed Phoenix 5 when in fact it is Phoenix 4, which I understand is still not compatible with V-Ray 6; I'm assuming the reason for that is to force perpetual license holders to submit to an annual base subscription(?) I have to weigh my options as to whether to revert to V-Ray 5 in order for Phoenix 4 to work correctly or select the annual base subscription.

          Thank you!

Ah, supporting V-Ray 6 with Phoenix 4 is not technically impossible, but it would take me a few weeks, so I am gathering a list of requests about it to see if it actually makes sense for me to focus on this instead of adding new things to the software. So far in 9 months since the V-Ray 6 release you are the 3rd person to ask about this (unless you have written to Support on 7 October, in which case the list is just 2 clients long).

            Thank you for understanding.

I appreciate your honest answer. I do recall this thread back in July of last year: //forums.chaos.com/forum/v-ray-6-for-3ds-max-beta/v-ray-6-for-3ds-max-beta-general/1150121-will-vray-6-work-with-phoenix-4-0 . Though I was sympathetic to your concerns over the woeful amount of labor involved in making Phoenix 4 adaptable to V-Ray 6, there were many in the community who were/are unable to afford the annual subscription fee. I thought I made an official query when I originally encountered the issue, but I can’t recall if I did.

Update: I bit the bullet and upgraded to Phoenix 5 and apparently (after a second rendering) that was the issue you pointed out. Thank you Svetlin.Nikolov for your help!

Ah, whew! I read the email notification initially, and was worried that you upgraded but the issue persisted.
