  • Urgent help needed to melt a butter cube

    Hi, all.

At first, I'm totally new with phoenix. Unfortunatelly I have to melt a butter cube like the one in this animation. I tried it with the Mapper and with the Particle Tuner but without a satisfying result. Too many parameters in the Liquid settings for a noob like me. Please, any help is greatly apreciated.

I see, I'm a posting noob too... gif doesn't work...

    Hello,

You can take a look at this tutorial here - https://youtu.be/lqe9bLBYM9M?si=5OlglvW34_mDRPcX

It covers the workflow on how to melt and solidify liquids.

If you have specific questions we will be glad to help.

Thank you for your quick response.

I tried this before but I didn't get the right result. I'll give it another try.

          Hi, Georgi.

It works... sort of. But there are still some problems.

The sphere as a distance mesh didn't work for me, so I made my own mesh (see attachments) and got some nice melting points with a grid resolution of 0.4 cm. My biggest problem is: the butter cube has a displacement modifier with the text "butter". To see that in the simulation, I have to increase the grid resolution to 0.1 cm. But then all the melting points disappeared and the cube melted as a single block.

          Any suggestions?

When changing Grid resolution - usually it's the other way around - the more grid resolution (smaller voxel size) the weaker the viscosity will be and you will need to compensate it with increasing the scene scale or increasing the steps per frame.

In your case if you wish to make the butter melt more - you need to lower the viscosity a bit.

Are you using a Particle Tuner - if yes, can you show us the settings?

Here are the particle tuner settings that I used. I did it as described in the tutorial you mentioned. I animated the viscosity in the second tuner because I need a very low viscosity at the end of the simulation.

I'll try now the scene scale and/or the steps per frame settings.
