  • Proxy system

    Hello!

Now that I spent my last 2 months working with multiple huge cache files I realize that it would be much easier to work with a low quality preview system in the viewport meanwhile the rendering part is still using the original high-quality caches. I know I have to resimulate in a lower quality anyway but changing the cache files automatically would be a huge help. My files contain 10-20 GB of cache files and just making a viewport preview can take hours in the worst case, Not to mention that when I have to time something precisely it's a nightmare to offset the caches.
Another thing that is missing in the info window is the actual cache file name with frame number.

Any chance that we can have some improvement in these?

    Hey,

A proxy system indeeds sounds nice, will add it in the to do list, maybe for now you can use the Cache Converter to reduce the grid res of the original cache and create a proxy file manually?

You can find more about it here - https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4MAX/Cache+Converter

An example command that reduces the grid resolution looks like this

    cache_converter.exe -srcfile ND2_PhoenixFDFire001_####.aur -dstfile outFile_####.aur -start 0 -end 10 -gridresscale 0.5

As for the filename - you can check it here - does this do the job?

      Hey Georgi,

This should work fine for me although switching the caches requires scripting but at least it's doable! I appreciate your help!
