  • Dust with flour + flour explosion

    Hi everyone,

in advance: We are (still) no Phoenix experts. So please bear with me.

We need to produce the following shot: The product of our client (power distributor combination, 40x50cm) stands on a plane. Then an explosion of flour dust happens and the cloud of flour enveloped the product and sprinkled it and also the ground plane. This should happen in super slow motion.

Is this something that can be done with Phoenix for Maya? We only found liquid, smoke and fire sims, but no powder stuff. Or do / should we go the Houdini way?

TIA for any tips & links!

    Hey Lars,

For the powder particle stuff you will need a particle simulation tool (other than Phoenix), Phoenix can handle the dust (the smokey parts), but the clumps are outside of the Phoenix toolkit at this point.

Maybe you can use nParticles for the clumps and you can emit the dust from them.

Here is a similar setup using Phoenix in 3ds Max, the Phoenix setup should work almost exactly the same in Maya as well - https://youtu.be/Dm50gRZC69k?si=pxHgJfdpHhdAK012

    Cheers!

      Hi Georgi,

thanks for your clarification and the link. Will pass it to my colleague.

Do Chaos plan to develop Phoenix in this direction (sim powder, snow, sand) or will it stay a fluid sim tool?

      Nice day,
      Lars

Having granular solover is already in the to do list, but won't be coming soon at least for now.
