  • Pipeline and rendering considerations.

    Hi all.
I have been testing Phoenix for a few days now but I'm starting to wonder what settings I should use when rendering with GI and Vray?

I know it always depends on the current scene but there are probably some do/don't.
Also I'd greatly appreciate some workflow pointers that would apply to more of a pipeline than just how to set up a sim.

Great work as expected. I was dissapointed when you shut Aura down but twice as happy when I heard of PhoenixFD.

    I'll start
Don't rename your simulation grid after you have done all your simulations. For me changing the name resets the simulation.

you can rename the grid, but should set an explicit path for input/output afterwards.

It does not reset the sim. But Pathnames are implicit by default. So you need to relink the path to the old autocreated filename and/or set explicit paths to prevent this.

Right thanks. Didn't think of that. Say would it be possible to extract the turbulance of a simulation?
I'd like to add sparks and debris and it would be awesome to have the sim as a spece warp drive the particles in PF.

Not as a spacewarp, but there are PF operators to emitt particles and a force operator to move them with the sim

                Thanks Thorsten
I'm sorry I should have read the manual better. I'm a bit out of synk.

sorry my english is quite poor, can someone show me ,

                  what is an explicit path?

do i need to write: in the output and the input

                  " //mymachine/thepath/myPhoenixFD1stframe.aur "

(i need to render it using 2 machines.)

that should do the trick if you have the path properly shared. windows generally rather uses backslashes for network connections tho.

For 2 machines another option would be sharing the path and mount it as a network drive on all machines. That way you can treat it like a local path

                    Thorsten

yes, you have to write this in the input (output is used only during the simulation). the best way to do this is using the browse button near to the path edit box.

                      Regards,
                      Ivo

                        thanks to you both....

I never use "local drive" ,I always specify network paths (in general),
                        maybe it's a mistake...
