  • How to stop the emission of Smoke?

We want to emit smoke from a POLY ID of an object THEN on Frame 30, have the smoke stop emitting over a course of 15 frames adn continue the animation as the existing smoke exits.

I thought, we could animate the "DISCHARGE" over time from a value of "10" at frame 30, and a value of "0" at frame 45.
However, it seems that at the frame where the value becomes "0", the residual smoke from the source "abruptly pops off".

Is the "Discharge" the parameter best for this, or is there a better method. I am sure it is user error as this is a VERY SIMPLE thing, so any thoughts?
After adjusting the rendering transparency, it did not resolve...

    Thanks!

this is a bit annoying, but even when the discharge is 0, the object releases a small amount of fluid. this is because the diffusion, and you have to animate the smoke itself too to stop the emission.

So, how would you animate the smoke without affecting the smoke that has "already been emitted"?
Wouldn't animating the "transparency" of the smoke down over time not affect the smoke already in the scene?
How would you recommend approaching this...

Here is the practical use for our project:
We have an actor (Death) who takes the soul of another actor laying on the ground. As Death touches the deceased's chest with his hand, small gust of smoke pours over the side of the actor from the chest, and pours onto the floor. The existing smoke continues to 'flow' across the floor but no new smoke is emitted from the source.

no, i meant not the shading of the smoke, but the physical channel that represents the smoke.

Ah, so animate the FUEL SOURCE OBJECT "Smoke" Channel -- Ex: Value of "10" to "0" over the same time 15 frame period I stated below.
I will test that out as well, thanks.

Well, not exactly -- However, for the purposes of this quick turnaround project I was doing it was okay. I need to get back on that and troubleshoot.
I DID attempt to animate teh "Smoke" channel over time as well. It did not stop the smoke either. I was kinda waiting to try again with the new version/build and see if it improved. I'll give it a shot as soon as I can.

there is really a problem, but it concerns only the new conservative type of advection. with the old type of advection everything is fine. here is the test scene.
another important point - when the only movement is those of the smoke source, the smoke cloud leaves a "queue" of smoke behind, that looks like the source still emits.
