  • Anyone willing to share some settings for realistic looking fireplace fire?

    Hi guys,

i am really struggling with creating a realistic enough looking fireplace fire.
There is so many settings and fiddling involved and lack of guiding samples in the manual i really find it very hard to come up with decent solution.
I ve seen all the tuts, all the setups on youtube and still its hard to find the right way for me :-////
I ve also seen some great examples of fires on youtube videos so i know this can be achieved perfectly.

is there anyone please willing to share some knowledge and settings with me/us struggling with Phoenix ?

Thank you very much for any tips!

    Best Regards
    Martin

i made a simple scene, and may be i will ad it to the samples. the most complicated task here is to produce the lighting of the environment by the fire in the fireplace. in my opinion the most efficient way is to use the additional lights option with huge count of the lights. unfortunately can't upload the video in youtube, it hangs on "processing".

      Thanks Ivaylo!!
thats surely a helpful insight.....now...what if id want to go for the look such as the following

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOmwu...eature=related

is it all about the temperature / colors and transparency settings for such output?

you mean the rendering, not the simulation? play with the color and transparency curve.

i meant both when i started the thread
i ve tried your settings and for some reason the flames dont dare to go as high as yours ....i ve raised the dischage value e bit and its on now
yeah the curve setup is probably crucial

it woudl be cool to be able to have more presets for typical real world solutions...i personally find Phoenix FD quide hard to understand at some points
          any plans regarding this?

          Thanks for your support btw

well, the reason to get different simulation is perhaps the fix in the core that i mentioned in the beta forum. update your build and the simulation will be the same.
the reason to have small count of presets is that in the most cases the result depends too strong on the helper objects, the source for example. thats why we prefer to put the typical situations in the sample scenes instead in presets.

              ok i get it now
will update once the point release is out though.
here is what i got now
moved the discharge to 20 and applied gaussian curve to fire transparency

                It looks like fumefx now
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

                  lol...is that a compliment or not )))
i will have to reserve some time to go deep within the phoenix but its hard among all the jobs to find even a few minutes to take a pi.. ))

one of our coworkers just introduced an interesting technique to produce fake blurred (glossy<1) reflections of phoenix.
the idea is that the big count of the additional lights produces specular highlights that look like blurred reflection of the fire itself

fumefx produces the fire I don't like at all.
This is what I call fire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGUzQO30NzQ
If you'd share ur scene (only ur fireplace with all the system units etc.) I can help ya
