  • Phoenix FD 1.2 splotchy GI - any help

Ive created a basic phoenix fire. The GI created is pretty spoltchy. Is there a way of either 1. turning off GI or to smooth out the GI ? Any other solutions would be appreciated.

turn off the gi and use the additional lights option with big count, 200 is good. see the fireplace sample fire, it is made by this way.

When you say turn off gi do you mean vrayproperties - visible to gi - OFF ? If you mean turn off GI in the main vray rollout then I need it on as I would like to render the entire scene with GI and only the fire without it.

well, if you need gi for the rest of the scene, you can disable it only for the simulator. but this does not work for 1.2, only for 2.0.

That's not good. It's rather an expensive upgrade just for a simple option...

There are other things in the upgrade too

Yes, I realise there are a lot of good reasons for upgrading but for this one particular job its just odd that GI exclusion is not an option for 1.2.

By the way, the same scene I was having overbright issues with...do you require all the texture maps etc...what is the email address I can send this to ?

Steve, a possible solution for you is to place a vraylight set to portal in front of the fire. That way any light rays from the fire will hopefully be cleaned up by the portal

i think there was a way to make it render faster and better by using the vray atmospheric and lightcache.

Im using IRR/BF so maybe I will try lightcache instead of BF...thanks

Im not sure what you mean by method as Im quite new to phoenix...the standard setup as far as know. Phoenix environment effect.

                            Check this out steve-
http://www.spot3d.com/phoenix20/tips.htm#3 - Rendering with an external volumetric shader

Its for phoenix 2 but the principles are the same.
It just allows you to render phoenix through VRay environment fog

the GI splotches are a problem for vray fog too, and for any self illuminated object as well. my advice is to download the demo of phoenix 2.0, and to use it for the rendering, it is NOT limited, only the simulation needs a license.
