  • Full bottle of liquid to start?

I was wondering if someone could recommend a workflow for starting a vfx shot with an exploding bottle full of liquid. Is there a way to start with a full volume of liquid and then let the breaking bottle direct the liquids? It seems I have a hard time getting the liquids to fill an object to boot.

Not really sure where to begin on this one.

    Thanks

    You should start from this:
    Using brush mode source
    1. Create a geometry covering the volume that should be filled with the liquid.
    2. Exclude this geometry from the interaction, by adding it in the simulator's exclude list, or by just hiding it.
    3. Create a liquid source, and select "brush" for the "if not solid" option.
    4. Animate the discharge from 100 to 0 for the first two frames.
    5. Disable the velocity check box of the source helper
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

your solution is described here. one additional note from me - simulating moving bottle with liquid may be a problem, because the content is "redrawn" in the grid at each step. it would be much better to move the floor (or whatever breaks the bottle) instead the bottle itself.

Thanks for the tips. When you save move the floor, do you mean exclude the broken bottle from the sim and use an external geometric force to move the water outwards? Nothing is really breaking the bottle. More like it's exploding within the bottle.

aah, my mistake, you are trying to simulate exploding bottle, not breaking? well, i would suggest to use small source inside the bottle that will drive the liquid outwards. do not use external force, it is slower and produces worse result.
