  • Clouds with Phoenix

I saw a video recently of someone creating a realistic cloud using FumeFX. Has anyone tried this using Phoenix FD or think it's possible? Here is the example from FumeFX:

You have some nice clouds examples. If you want the same cloud like in this video just do the same
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

        Ivaylo,

That would be awesome. I've always been surprised that Chaos Group hasn't really provided great simple cloud examples with their software. The closes I've seen was with VRayFogEnvironment but even that has its limit with quality, render time, and it's own complication of setting it up to get the right results. If Chaos Group releases a product that was dedicated to Environments and clouds inside 3D Max I would be first in line to pre-order. Kind of like Chaos Group's own version of Vue inside of Max. "AtmosphereFX by Chaos Group".. Ooo that would be awesome.

That way we wouldn't have to fake it with Phoenix and VRayFog.

            Hi,
we did static clouds with Phoenix some time ago. It is one single cloud instanced, scaled and rotated. Don't know if they look realistic or more like some dreamy too fluffy stuff in the sky. Too bad that there are only very short moments () past 0:53 in this trailer (two horses in the foreground). Worked very well for us. Rendered seperately super fast most of the time.

            Ha, found an image:

3DWolf, that looks really good. Great work!

Im curious what anyone from ChaosGroup thought about creating a system that's just for clouds. Like in what I described above.

we are considering some convenient Phoenix tools for cloud setup long time ago.

Well I hope you can reconsider again. I'm sure I'm not alone when it comes to a realistic volumetric cloud system In Max.
