  • Getting lighting without rendering smoke/flame

What is the best way to get the effects of the fire lights onto other geometry when rendering in passes? I have a pass of the smoke and fire, but I need a pass of the other geometry, which should be lit by the fire from the explosion.

Do I simply set PhoenixFD to be unseen by camera?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Do I simply set PhoenixFD to be unseen by camera?
Don't know how the scene looks like, but it should be enough for most of the cases.
The Phoenix lights will work even if the fire/smoke is invisible to camera.

I suppose that you are working on an animation setup.

there is an option "emit if not renderable", (persistent lights in the old version), you have to enable it for separate light pass

Nice. I think I got this working.

I did notice a weird thing I would call a bug... If PHX is set to geometry mode (in VRay) then the smoke will render even if visible to camera is turned off in the object properties for the PHX object. When I disable geometry mode then the smoke/flame goes away as I would expect. (Nightly build from Aug 9)

        Thanks.

Could you specify the exact Phoenix, V-Ray and Max versions that you are using to test with?
