  • Ocean motion blur and displacement questions

I have a scene with an ocean simulation, I am using Vray for rendering. 1st, does Vray Geometry mode work with ocean, because I can't get it to work together. 2nd, I am using "render as mesh with ocean and I can't get the motion blur to work for the mesh. 3rd, when I add displacement to the mesh for the waves the foam on the surface vanishes into the mash because it doesn't rise with the displacement. Thanks in Advance!

1 - the ocean function is mesher's feature, it does not work in isosurface mode.
2 - there was bug in the motion blur in 2.1, that was fixed and we released a hot fix, your version must be displayed as 2.11
3 - when you associate the particle group to the foam shader, you will obtain an message suggesting to set the simulator as liquid, you must click yes to this suggestion, otherwise the foam will not follow the displacement. you can set this parameter by hand of course, see the bottom part of the foam's panel

For the liquid association it is set but still not recognizing it. Will try a test scene to see if it is scene specific.

        can we see the scene?
or some simple scene that produces the same issue

I am checking to make sure it's not me and the scene is quite big, I can send you the scene if if interested you can remote login to one of my extra systems to check it out. Let me know.

just create a new pure scene, no need to send the big one

I will make you a sample scene and try to get it to you by tomorrow "that's if I can get it to do it in a new scene" will keep you updated

Just noticed that when I use the ocean option that on the velocity pass on the ocean extended part is maxing out on the colors but the simulation part is working correctly (using Phoenix 2.1.1)

Sorry for the late response, here is the beauty and velocity pass with the distorted values. Also, my displacement lacks detail. I've upped the mesh smooth on Phoenix options but I can never get it to look as good as Vray displace.

really your waves are missing fine details, low resolution grid perhaps?
the grid content is not refined when the displacement is generated, and if it's resolution is low, the result has no details. the external extension is refined up to the value "sky line subdiv.".
however the velocity lack is a mystery for me. even without velocity channel exported, the displacement generates it's own velocity because the waves are moving.
can you make some additional shots form different angle, and also to try with and without velocity channel exported?

My Grid is X:678 Y:684 Z:198, Skyline subdivide 7, meshsmooth I've tried from 1 up to 40 and displacement I'm using Vector with FDOceanTex. I can give you the file with the first few frames of the sim but I can't post it here because of it being work related.
