river setup

is there a tutorial or some good tips for a river setup?
I don't know what's the best way to make something flow in a direction. I mean I have different ideas, but...
maybe the phoenix power user have some better.

just incline the simulator's box, create a source in the upper part and some geometry for the river's bed, and the liquid will flow downward.

The Phoenix Water texture, can do a nice river flow.
I just finished a project with a river and that work like a treat.
If you don't need any simulation, it can be applied to a plane with displacement as well.
