  • Maya PHX cache file to MAX

Could find an answer by using Search so I ask directly.

Are the Maya and MAX PHX cache files usable between softwares?
I mean, I have made a sim in Maya and want to use PHX caches directly in MAX Phoenix.

With a quick test, I can see this red box growing when I load Maya PHX caches in MAX version, and can see that Total Cells keeps increasing but I cant see a meshed visualization when selecting it from the preview. Also I can see the flow by tapping Velocity on from the preview, but nothing when rendering.

    Usable.
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

Hmm, we gotta check this, sounds very broken. I understand you are trying a Liquid cache?

The up axis must be flipped, but I don't know if this option was added to 3ds Max. Or just work with Z up axis in Maya.

by default the simulation and render settings are adjusted for fire/smoke jobs, just click the liquid checkbox and the mesh should appear.

I still havent able to get this work.
With the latest nightly of Maya PHX I created a cache (seems to be only one file, and by scrubbing the time line the simulation halt on one frame) and tried to load it into MAX PHX. Same thing. It shows the red adaptive grid growing and by selecting velocity I see it, but by tapping mesh preview on and in rendering mesh, it is not visible in frame buffer?

you mean there is liquid in the cache file, maya is showing it, but in max you see nothing? can you attach a screen shot of the preview and render panels?

Ok, heres a test with the latest nightlies. Up axis seems to be flipped as Ivanov mentioned.
Again no mesh. And velocity can be see in the viewport.

the resolution is too low to see the values, but as i see you didn't enable the liquid option, your simulator is still in fire/smoke mode and the preview/rendering are set to display fire/smoke

you can switch the settings by hand, but better just click the liquid checkbox, as i suggested two posts above

Oh, yes. Enable liquid, I just didnt understand it will enable the preview also. Really thought it has worked before without Liquid turned on but whatever, now it works (in Maya it works with Max cache without Liquid turned on).

the liquid option itself does not affect the rendering and the preview, but when you click it, the preview and render settings are automatically switched to the liquid values, this is just some kind of auto preset loading.
