  • Rendering Fume fx cache in phoenix fd for Maya

    Hi,

We are trying to render a fume fx cache in phoenix fd for maya and hitting couple of road blocks while trying to the match the shading with that of fume fx.
Has anyone tried this before, if so any inputs on this would be really very helpful for us.

    Thanks

You can also check a tutorial on how to setup the render options in max, they are generally analogous to the maya settings:
      https://vimeo.com/101519570

Since there are no ready f3d render presets as in max, you will have to setup the shading by hand, and the most important stuff is in the video.

You can also check the help file topic: http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/P...ingswithFumeFX

        Thanks Svetlin,
I will look at the video and the help topic regarding fuel as the channel for fire color is very helpful.

        Here are two images Ivaylo,

I can also send the cache file of the sim.

Meanwhile I will have a look at the video and will get back to you guys.

          Thanks for the video, Svetlin.
          It helped a lot.
I have couple of queries regarding phoenix for maya.
          1. which is mode is 'Use own Opacity' in phoenix for Maya -Is it Constant Opacity or Emission Opacity?

          2. what is equivalent to 'Fire Multiplier' in Phoenix for Maya - Is it 'Fuel Scale'?

            Hello,
Glad it helped, we'll be embedding maya render presets into the interface soon, but currently only the manual setup is the way to go.
So, the corresponding option to "Use own opacity" is the "Emission opacity" mode, and yes - "Fuel Scale" will have the same effect as the "Fire Multiplier", although their scale is a bit different, since the diagrams are different between the maya and max versions.

              Thanks Svetlin,
Yeah, I am working here on a fumefx cache from Max, imported into Phoenix for Maya.
The fire diagram is a bit tricky to achieve, as in Maya the x axis in the fire diagram has different values than in fume's

I am not sure if my fire diagram curve is correct.
Is there a way to closely match the fire diagram from fume ?

Yup, the diagram just has to go from 0 to 1 horizontally in Phoenix, while in Fume it's from 0 to 100. This means that the fuel offset must be 0, and the fuel scale: 1.

I can see now that the maya version does not have a color multiplier in "Emission Opacity" mode, so you might have to dim down the gradient colors manually in case it's too bright, and we'll have to add that control later in the nightlies.

                  Great,
I did as you mentioned. and dimmed down the gradient colors as it was too bright.
Is the smoke scale and offset also similar to the fire scale. Should I keep it at 1 and 0 ?

Yup, the smoke should go between 0 and 1 as well

                          Thanks
                          So far I am here,
The first image is render from Phoenix, while the second is the from Fume both on same frame, different camera angle.
I roughly mapped the fire diagram, but I think i still need to dim down the gradient colors in fuel map.
I am wondering what else could be done to get the smoke more sharper, I matched the opacity of smoke from fume to Phoenix. But I guess I am missing
                          something here.

are you sure that is the same frame? would be good to use the same angle position, because they look totally different now.

Is it possible that you use Extra Detail in the original FumeFX sim? Unfortuntely we can't import it, because it is not exported in the f3d files.
