  • Simulating additional frames

    Hi
Sorry, It might sound like a noob question.
I did an explosion simulation for 150 frames, I was asked to add to 10 more frames at the end,
Is it possible to continue simulation from 150, with out resimulating from begining ?

    Thanks

Yes if you have the right outputs. Can't remember which one exactly but at least velocity and maybe speed. Then you can restore.
    from the doc:
    Restore
If the velocity channel is exported, Phoenix is able to restore the simulation. This command finds the nearest file containing velocity channel behind the time slider and continues the simulation from it (see Backup interval parameter).

      Hey Yannick,

Thanks a lot, I will look into it, I have velocity channel enabled in output, but I dont think I have speed enabled.

you might not need the speed.

I get a message saying 'fatal error in restoring', missing backup channel or invalid cache file

            Hello,
In the Output panel you need to have the "Backup interval" set to something else than 0 (assuming you are using Phoenix for 3ds max) - this is how often restore frames are generated. Then you must go the end of your simulation and hit "Reset". Phoenix will find the last backup frame before the frame you are looking at and resume from there.

              Thanks Svetlin,
The backup frame is set to 10. I am using Maya.
The playback controls on phoenix simulator doesnot have reset button, or did you mean 'restore'.
I tried the same process, but i get the same message. May be I am doing something wrong.

Woops, "Restore" - my bad. In maya, the option means how often it's saved, I think 10 means 10 minutes, try setting it to 1. We have to equalize the option between max and maya.

EDIT: But because the restore does not work the way your cache files are now, the only the only option will be to simulate again from the begining..
