  • Phoenix Output channels -- Fuel -- when to use?

I watched the flamethrower tutorial on the Chaos site and it's quite good but it brings up a question about fuel (and output channels generally).

In the video, he turns on Fuel on the Source and enables Fuel burning in the Sim. I don't see him ever turn on Fuel in the Output rollout of the Sim.

I've noticed in my tests that turning Fuel on and off in the Output channels rollout of the Sim doesn't seem to make any difference. Either way, the fuel seems to be having an effect (and I see it in the Cache File content window). So what does the Output Channel Fuel checkbox do? When does it need to be on?

the output channels are rendering oriented, you adjust them with the rendering setup in mind, they do not affect the simulation. you do not need the fuel in the rendering, therefore you keep it off in the output.
