  • Speed map

    Morning!

Could I ask the workflow, if any, to create a speed map to get a black/white grad based on velocity to use in comp (will stick into extraTex map). Currently using the 09/06/2015 nightly build along with the FLIP solver and exporting velocity channel. Currently tried vertex colour map and PhoenixTexmap (pointing to a duplicate Phoenix domain) and set to velocity channel, no luck as of yet.

    Thanks

the texmap can use directly the velocity, but it's colored instead gray and white and beside this can be negative .
but fortunately there is a way to do gray scaled map, even two ways
create a dummy simulator , make it not renderable, and redirect it's input to the cache files with the simulation. open the fire and smoke options (old name colors and transparency) and set the opacity to be speed based, adjust the curve if needed to match better your speed distribution. use this simulator in the phoenix texmap and set the channel to alpha, this should produce the map you need.
