Yup, we do provide an SDK for other software to read our files or communicate directly with the simulator inside 3ds max. Krakatoa's been reading Phoenix data for at least 3-4 years, now Stoke does it as well, so it's a matter of willing to do it I guess.

        Bumping this again!

So now that v3.0 is out, would you have time to do a conversion script from aur to vdb? Starting up another sim project and I don't want to do it in fume! (that has vdb output.) A cmd batch converter would be great, but anything that can create a vdb would be awesome.

This would be top priority right now. Thanks for your patience!

                Hey,

Do you need it for 3ds Max or for Maya? We could either try to put it in the Mayan release, or we could add it to 3ds Max and make only the 3ds Max nightlies public again.

                Cheers!

In max would be great, but if you do if as batch conversion script from .aur to .vdb, everybody could use it.

We would be using it in Maya in order to assist with cloud rendering that doesn't support phoenix, but has innate VDB and V-Ray support. Speaking of Maya, the 3.0 release is coming soon, no? This week? Next month?

                        Hey guys,

Just an update on this - using a 3.0 nightly for 3ds Max now you can replace in the output path of a Phoenix simulator the "aur" extension with "vdb" and it would export VDB caches. Note that this way you need to set an explicit path and can't use the $(...) macros. For now this is just an experimental feature and we will add a better interface for it with time. Please do tell if you find any issues with it.

                        Cheers!

                          Hi,

would like to test these with Redshift - I was on the nightlies previously but logging in to the account only shows the FD 2 Nightlies and Vray for Blender - do I need to be added?

                          Thanks,

                          Steve

Yep - Phoenix 3.0 has different licenses, and thus a different nightly location with separate permissions. You'll have to drop an email to Support and request permissions for the new nightlies.

                            Cheers!

Tried to write out VDB's today, but it still writes AUR. I made a specific path writing "test.####.vdb" but when i simulate it writes: "test.####.vdb.aur". What am I doing wrong? (Using 30501.)
