  • how to get this kind of fire sim

    Hi Everyone,

Wondering if some one can explain how to get a look like in the vid below:

    https://youtu.be/vVFjZMM-fkA?t=69

Essentially its a really quick fire, I'm after both speed and shape of it.

    Thanks!

yes, this will need high spf , perhaps 10
the interesting part is how to make the free of fire zone
if you just emit hot air, the fire will be visible in any case, even the diagram is seto to make it invisible at the birth properties, the interpolation will produce intermediate values.
two options, to use fuel or to use particles. i would recommend the second one, it's hard to prevent the fire propagation against the jet, the particles are the purest solution

Hey Dmirtri! Long time no talk bro. You're probably on the Max build, but you can translate my Maya terms. I defo agree with Ivaylo on emission from particles. For something like this I would have 2 sources: One that emits smoke and temperature, and another that emits only emits velocity.

SmokeAndTemp_SRC: Low frequency noise map for the particle emission, high temperature. Short lifespanPP. The goal is to have nice pockets of negative space in your emission particles.

Velocity_SRC: Larger particles than the ones in SmokeAndTemp_SRC. Be sure to turn on "Use Particle Size". Short lifespanPP. Create Uniform and turbulence fields to get particles to loosely match the speed and motion of the reference footage. Slight bit of conserve/damp on the particles. (.9-.97). Random mass on the particles helps break up the velocities as well.

On the SIM: Set your timescale to 4 or so, steps per frame to 8+. Conservation and Advection methods... - eh, your call. I would try default smooth and classic. Quality 50+. Crank up the large and small scale vorticity.

It may help to have an additional med-high freq turbulence/curl noise field applied to the SIM container directly - That will spread the flame out as it rises. LOW magnitude on this field.

Once you get the loose motion/shape looking correct, I like to duplicate the Phoenix simulator and layer the 2-3 sims together (All referencing the same cache)

Hey Mike, thanks for the info! very creative approach. I'll give it a try.
