  • Need a break parameter

    Hi There

I have spend all day, trying to do an animation of a cement trowel that dig into a bucket of cement and scoops up a lump of cement and places it in a container.

I have been really near a satisfying result for a long period of time, but every time I crank up the viscosity to about 0,8-0,9 so the cement does not look like 0,6 porridge, the cement appears very stringie and chewing gum like.

Using Direct Smooth 40 Classic (Semi-Lagrangian) 8, Wetting, Surface Tension 1.

It would be so helpful if you could introduce a break parameter that can override the Viscosity setting and break up the fluid based on the tension.

    Does this make sense?
    Thanks

well, it's not quite clear, but as i understand you need to make possible formation of slits and cracks in the surface. with the current simulation abilities this is not possible, it will be in the future versions, but for now you have to fake it if possible.
can you provide a reference video, we can help you with some advice

      Here you go.

Advises are much appreciated. thank you

BTW, the only way I can get the cement to slip of the trowel is by turning off wetting during the last part of the animation. Is there a better way to do this?

It sounds like you're after something like houdini sand. It can stick together but breaks based on tension. maybe not fluid like enough?

ivaylo, out of curiosity is that a direction phoenix could head in someday?

actually it's fluid-like enough, and we are quite near to this point, we have all the needed tools for jelly and sand sims in the flip core and if i was 15 years younger, i would say "it's one day work", but i'm not, so it will remain for the next release.

i meant a movie with real cement, the cement as i have seen it has no slits until is wet, it has certain surface texture, that can be achieved rendertime by displacement, but is not cracked. it starts to crack if remains dry, but this is undesired.

Sounds extremely promising (jelly and sand'n all).
Since you provide access to the nightly builds, please provide us a heads up as soon as implemented so we can begin testing. thanks

well, this will be started after the release, we are not adding new features already, there is a lot for polishing and fixing
