  • Question about displacement during simulations.

Is there a difference between having the displacement checked during simulations and not? In regards to splash and foam particles and their placement during rendertime?

IE will the particles that are generated during a sim without a displacement be pushed to the surface during render time when displacement pushes the surface up and down?

And in any case, are there benefits for simulating with a displacement on, rather than putting that on only during rendertime later?

the displacement option affects only the rendering, however, the particles are affected rendertime by the displacement as well, this means their position is shifted during the rendering.

Aha, so to be clear - your recommendation is to always simulate without the displacement activated? Or does it have any effect on anything? Speed of sim etc?

yes, my recommendation is to simulate without displacement, because it may slow down the preview. in general my recommendation is when simulate large sims, to disable the preview at all. the frame loading can get really long, when the files are heavy, and beside this if you are near to the ram limits, the preview can be the one who overloads the ram.
