  • Flip solver? What is it? Where can I test it?

...so I am a new Phoenix FD user and I am little bit confused about the features inside several FD Versions.
I am read some stuff in the forum and saw some videos on Youtube and vimeo about the new Flip-Solver.
Can someone explain me, what is it? I am working with max 2016 and get the latest nightlies built from Phoenix. But where can I test these flipsolver-thing?
I worked up the River tutorial but Phoenix is hard to understand because some input values are very abstract. In special case the generation of "good looking" splashes and foam is really hard
so does the flip solver simplify fluid simulation at all...?

Sorry for these silly questions and my bad english... I am working on it..

In the new nightly builds, I believe any fluid source is automatically using the flip solver. The main difference was that its much faster - it doesnt change what you have to do at all.

in the nightly builds there are two simulator objects - for fire/smoke and for liquids. the liquid solver is using the flip solver automatically, if you do any liquid simulation with it, they are flip based.
about the flip solver itself, this is the best known technique for liquid simulations and currently all products oriented to liquids are using it. in the previous versions of phoenix, we used the same simulator for both kinds of simulations fire/smoke and liquids. the reason for this is simple - phoenix was intended to be a fire/smoke simulator, the liquids were considered a small side feature, not a main feature. however they turned into main feature and we had to give this in account.

ok, thanks for the answers. Are any problems with vray 3.3 beta?
There is also a wired thing: when creating a new simulation in 3dsmax 2016, in the simulation rollout the "liquids" UI is missing! when opening the "ship" demo scene, the "liquids" rollout is visible...

this is for compatibility with the old scenes, it would be strange the liquid simulator to have liquids panel, the entire simulator is for liquid
