i suppose the main delay is in the geometry representation, you have complex geometry that is perhaps animated. it's strongly recommended to replace too complex objects with dummy low poly delegates. if the complex geometry has too many components, just switch the interaction model to include list, and pick the delegates and all the rest objects that must participate.
however, keep in mind that in this business 5 sec per frame is incredible fast, the production simulations are about 1- 5 min per frame
another tip for faster simulation: disable the preview. the typical production simulation takes hours, and you are not watching it, the preview time may reach significant part of the process, even above 50% of all the time______________________________________________

Two more things - conservation of 100 and 2 steps per frame are high settings for a smoke/fire sim. You should use more than 1 step if you have a very fast moving fluid, otherwise you are just losing detail. Conservation of 100 is also required if you want to achieve shockwaves with the direct symmetric method, or very good and symmetric rolling of mushroom rings, etc.
The other thing is - in the simulation panel - exclude all other NUMA nodes and use just one - we have added the control exactly for that reason - in 9 out of 10 cases, more numa nodes simulate slower than one, because the communication between them is costly. You could utilize the other nodes for simultaneous rendering or other tasks instead.Svetlin Nikolov, Ex Phoenix team lead
