  • large scale thin smoke setup

    hi

I would like to achieve such a smoke with a nightly build. http://c2n.me/3xo7oud.png
but mine with pretty much default setting looks like this... http://c2n.me/3xo7Sxd.png
what do I have to change in phoenix to get a large scale smoke that's white and slow moving up?

    thanks

    Hello,

There is a bug in the latest nightly build regarding the colors so use an older nightly (before 21st of April) or you can wait for tomorrow's nightly where it should be fixed.

The slow-moving part can be achieved if you increase your scene scale - the bigger it is the slower your smoke will move.

The reference image looks more like cigarette smoke. I would probably take off most the turbulence but leaving large scale at a decent level. High conservation amount and play with the scene scale like Georgi said. Maybe less on the time scale too? Totally down to trial and error though :P

Hi I am doing something similar but i am really struggling with 2 things:
        1. Turbulence strength and size - no matter what i do i always get atomic cloud in the beginning
        2. I cant make the smoke to dissappear at certain point - i tried dissipation and it doesnt influence, i tried also changing particle life span and its not working either

i am trying to recreate smoke form a cup of tea.
        Any hints please?

          Hey,

Could you share your source, turbulence and dynamics settings, as well as a shot of your viewport setup, so we'd have a better idea of what could be happening?

          Thanks

Hi Svetlin, due to time reasons i will have to do this the old school way video loop way :-/
i will probably come back to this when i have a little time but now its a struggle.

There is somethign really weird with phoenix when the scene units are in CM.
I already had problems with Phoenix Ocean tex.
Scene scale/Turbulence values/Particle life span that i had to lower to somethign like 0.18 sec!! to get a smoke that disappears in reasonable way.

I like all the example scenes u guys made, would it be possible to have a similar example for a coffee cup with a nice steam comming out of it?

I will yet come back with the Phoenix Ocena tex scaling in another thread i have open.

            Sorry to have bugged u

Hey, there's a Coffee quick preset (it's next to the Beer quick preset). Add a geometry, apply this preset and there's a coffee! : ) Maybe you should tweak some settings but it's a good starting point.

P.S. Please, attach the scene to see what's wrong with the settings.

Indeed, and for the coffee smoke you could start off from the Cigarette smoke preset - it would certainly require two simulators, so make sure to exclude the Smoke sim from the Coffee sim interaction so that the smoke won't feedback velocities into the liquid sim after you have already simulated both and you start the coffee again.

When you deal with Phoenix and units, all you need to remember is that you have to always calculate how big the effects would be in real life - if the total width of your simulator is e.g. 10cm, it's completely normal that all settings would be very sensitive, the fluid will move very quickly, the gravity will have huge effect, sources will create quite big pressure for such a small volume, and ocean waves would be huge,

Please do share a setup which you have issues with when possible Cheers!
