the result was a screen with a solid color if the water domain.
to learn how this is done created a simple ocean scene whit simulator.

    Hey,

Seems like the problem is gone in the nightlies - you definitely should upgrade as there were many, many fixes since 2.2.

    Cheers!

I did give a nightly a try few weeks ago. Worked great with the FLIP "ship" example scene Ivailo posted. I also simulated one of my boats scaled down to fit in the "ship" simulator (units 1 unit=20cm). When I tried to start a simulation from scratch with real scale units 1 unit =1 m, then then all (foam, splashes...) went to hell and my attempts to fix things using "intuition" - only made thing worse. This FLIP method must be for very advanced users CG artists, which I am not. I am just a Naval Architect with some CFD experience and only the Lagrangian method settings make physical sense to me.
Since you were so kind to respond to me I'll dare to ask you few more questions.
I saw few mentionings in posts regarding new version coming. Is it known yet when it is anticipated to be out?
Will the Classical method continue to be supported os is it on it's way out?
Will FLIP be at least somewhat documented in the new version so a non-specialist be able to learn and set up a simulation?
Thanks for your help in advance.

        Hey,

Indeed, the Classic advection and generally the grid solver will be replaced by FLIP for the next release. Any old scenes will keep working as before, though.
Sorry to hear about the issues you had with FLIP - it should not be harder to use and should generally behave better than the old method, so if you still keep the scene that behaved badly, would it be possible to send it over to support so we can have a look and make sure the solver works properly?

Samples and documentation will be up-to-date for the release, which will hopefully be not long from now

        Cheers!

i think another user reported similar problem, and in his case it was the foam patterns, switch them off and try again.

Yup, if this works, try a latest nightly - the patterns issue was resolved in the nightly from Jul 7.
