  • wave force sea affected by simbox edges ?

    hi,

trying to play with waveforce sea (and failing spectacularly!)
i`m clearly getting interaction with the sim box here ?(see attached). waves seem to pause/cling at the simbox edges and not pass through the edge of the simbox. waves also seem to take on the corner/edge shapes as if hitting the sim box too.
grid is fully open on all axises(axes ?) so shouldn`t the waves be travelling through the sim box edges as if they weren`t there ?

not done this before so i`m probably doing it all wrong.
any pointers, can`t see any decent tutorials, i guess it`s too new ?

working in meters, simbox is 100m sq. i`m using recent nightly.
be gentle ! i`m probably being a numpty.

    Hello,

One of the things you can do is to set your Ocean Level in the rendering settings to 0 and it should eliminate the things you get in the second picture.

About the waves from the edge it is a limitation of how the wave force is implemented at the moment and we will fix it in the future.

can you show the border conditions in the grid panel?

on a tangent, i noticed that when starting a sim using the toolbar it auto opens the `simulation` tab of phoenix making me lose my place in the tab i was working in. (eg tweaking settings while simulating). when you press play in toolbar you`re teleported to the top simulation rollout, although it only does it if the simulation menu is closed. not sure if this would be a bug or a choice ?
          slightly annoying is all.

Got it, will change it so that the Simulation rollout is not forced open on sim start.

Apart from that, maybe Ivaylo can explain why the wave force reflects off the open walls...

Svetlin, any chance you'd be able to do an updated sample file for a tank which blends with an infinite displaced ocean, both driven by the phoenix ocean tex?

Um, I think there was a version of such scene added by Ivaylo around here in the forums. Do you have that one, or is it not working correctly anymore?

@svetlin: re:selection issue...it also reselects the simobject while you have other objects selected as well, makes a bit awkward to play with phxsource controls during sim. don`t know if that`s related too.

Yup, that's by design as well, not sure if we need it though. Basically the toolbar does the same as what starting the sim though maxscript's A_StartSim would do, so this behavior is inherited from it. I have an idea of how to proceed and combine this with other changes as well...

                      hi,
i`m attempting a life raft in a rough sea.
i`m getting interaction with the simbox edges again. i think the waves are hitting too but it`s subtle but you can definitely see it on the foam. all axis(axes?) are open.
i could reduce it by making the simbox wider i guess but that would increase calc time.
i`m also getting some brightness flicker between frames on animation of the foam.

                      thanks

Oh, any chance we could have a look at the scene? Could you send that to Support?

i think the problem may be not in the wave force at all, but in the splash/foam birth. can you disable them for the test, let see the pure water behavior without foam.

it`s entirely possible as it`s what seemed to happen before when i tried (at beginning of thread) in a different scene. waves seem to stick/bounce on the edges. i`ll try again later, work time now !
