  • alembic with motion blur, how?

    Hi,

Not sure if I should post here or the V-Ray forum. I had exported a liquid mesh sequences (sim with PhoenixFD3) through 3dsmax alembic. May I ask what is the correct way when exporting, so I can render out motion blur for Alembic?

Are there any settings I need to check in PhoenixFD 3? I did a search on the forum still can't get a clear answer. I am using 3dsmax and render with V-Ray 3.4.

    Regards,

    Chen

    Hey Hammer Chen,

It's possible that the vertex velocities are not exported on our side. Let me check that...

    Cheers!

Well, doesn't seem like there is a straightforward way to export the velocities, neither through Autodesk's exporter, nor through Crate...

Doesn't using the vertex color channel work?

I am using 3dsmax and VRay. I think the problem might comes form 3dsmax alembic exporter / importer itself, my wild guess.

The exporters don't seem to allow it, yes. There is barely any documentation on Autodesk's, and on the other hand Exocortex Crate has had no movement for the past 6 months, so not sure if they are still alive and kicking.

Could xmesh do it? I know it is not alembic, but at least it might be a solution if you package supports it. It is really sad that there is no development anymore of crate, it saved me many times in the past.

Is it looking as if there's no way to print velocity on alembic? What about an option to output a mesh sequence, somewhat like Realflow does with their mesh loader?

We'll probably just end up writing our own exporter to Alembic, but it will not be done for a while longer.

                    Best regards,
