  • exclude regions from generating foam?

I have a ocean sim where a object is rising up from the water. To get the amount of foam i wanted when the water falls i decreased the threshold quite a bit, but now the slightest movement of the water on the edges of the phoenix container generates foam. I can battle this by increasing the grid size but with such a slight movement on the edges i don't think it should be necessary.

Anyone have some tips for me?

    Hey,

I can recommend you the 3.0 nightlies, as we already made several fixed for foam appearing on the borders of the container in various cases. You should drop a mail to Support asking for access and it should be granted in a day or two.

Additionally, we really need to add tools for removing or producing foam and other particles in specific areas/volumes. I hope we'll be able to get to that soon as well

    Cheers!

      Great! Doing it right now!

Also, I am using phoenix ocean tex as displacement on the mesh, but it only fades in as the object is coming out of the water. any idea to why this is?

Hmm, do you have a shot of how this looks?

Yes sir. Here you can see it fading in and also the foam generated from the container.

I have now access to the nightlies so i will do my final sim in that with higher res and more SPF.

My suggestion is to NOT use the threshold as amount controlling parameter, the threshold is intended to control where to get the foam, the amount relation is just a side effect. There is separate parameter that is controlling the amount without.

hmm. yeah i tried having a high amount only at first but it wouldn't convert the falling water to splash and mist at the rate i wanted, but i agree that having such a low threshold as i am now can absolutely create undesired effects like it does here.

This is with the threshold at 5 and a much higher amount on the splash and foam.

Since the object is of such a big scale i would like the foam to spread more out like my original render instad of being very localized around the submarine.

Any tips to what parameters could help me achieve the same result as in the video below, but without the artefacts?

You can try and increase the velocity multiplier for the Splashes.

Additionally, you might also try increasing the motion velocity effect of the submarine to more than 1 - this way it will generally increase the force the submarine applies to the liquid. However, there is no direct way I can think of that would make the foam spread farther. Will have to think about adding such an option.
