  • Smooth wind tunnel like smoke flow?

I'd like to create an animation looking like this:

Unfortunately I can't even manage to get a basic smooth smoke flow going - it always starts billowing right from the beginning, let alone any meaningful smoke dispersion happening behind the "wing" (which ist just a sphere in my case). Any good tips on getting started on this?

I would suggest using "Cigarette Smoke" quick presets. Because it is particle-based and can be much easier to control the looking.

Also, you definitely might want to experiment with vorticity and even try turning it off.

        Hey,

Here is a scene you could use as a starting point: Turbulence3D_2012.zip

It uses Plain Force to create the wind and drag particles to visualize the streamlines. Forward Transfer advection helps keeping the streamlines tight. The particles are emitted using a discharge modifier on the source to make them appear only at certain positions. Also added some Classic Vorticity. You could experiment with PCG or Direct Symmetric conservation. Additionally, you could make the grid completely 2D and use Multi-Pass advection - it has a little different feel to it though.

        Hope this helps
