  • How to simulate giant bodies of fire?

    Hi we have a project where a port crane is burning. It is a giant port crane that loads cargo on giant sea ships.

    How do we create fire detailed enough for close ups? Our grid cell is 10 centimeters it is ok for distant shots but not close ups. Total cell number is already 160 million that took two days to calculate so making 500 mil cells or more will takes weeks to calculate and each sim will be like 10 gib in size. Are there any tricks for fires where they do not look pixelated? We still use 2.2 phoenix. Does phoenix 3 uses flip solver for flames that does not create chess looking patterns? (we are still waiting for otoy to support phoenix 3)

    perhaps with different simulations for closeup and distant frames?
