  • best train smoke settings?

hi are there any best settings for steam train smoke and steam Thank you!

    Hey,

I'd recommend the large smoke preset for the smoke, eventually adjusting the unit scale in the dynamics panel, but the rest of the sim settings should be good to go. For steam, you could start from the cold smoke preset and adjust the temperature of the source in order to regulate how fast it will descend or rise up - you could go with temperature of maybe about 400 Kelvins, so the steam would slowly rise. If you want to have both steam and smoke in the same scene, you'll have to use two sims in order to get different behavior by both, and you'll have to exclude them from mutually interacting and be careful not to have any helpers such as turbulence affect both sims if they are intended just for one of them. Also, if the train is moving, you should link the simulators to it and make sure you have the 'Inertial forces' checked in the Dynamics rollout.

This should pretty much be a good starting point

        hi Svetlin,
could you explain this you mentioned " large smoke preset for the smoke, eventually adjusting the unit scale in the dynamics panel" Can i do this in 2.2 version. Basically large grid cells?

And one more thing how do you make steam to spread like in this video https://youtu.be/YTJI8sBXoX0?t=8m34s.
Mine stays together too much and does not spread fast enough. I used symmetric quality 150 classic advection. Not sure if those are the best to use.

        Thank you!

          Hey,

In order to spread the smoke more, you could add some turbulence with smaller scale, so that it does not behave like tea smoke Alternatively, you could use the classic vorticity and increase it so that it would tear the smoke up.

Why don't you get 3.0? It's a free upgrade and it's mostly backwards compatible. The presets are there since 3.00.01, and they should be a good starting point.

          Cheers!

Hi yes we are going But i think Octane is still not supporting 2.25 and version 3 because of separate sim boxes for liquids, smoke, etc Thank you
