  • can we use phoenix to create volumetric light

hi we are trying to have light shine through cracks Can we use phoenix to create dust/light fog. is there way to fill up sim box fast with smoke/ thank you

Yes you can. I'm currently working on a project where I use Phoenix grid as a volume container. You might need to create quite dense grid to get good quality shadows, but because you don't need to simulate anything, it's really fast. I'm currently having grid with 1.7 billion voxels.

To get grid filled with smoke, you just need to set the minimum opacity for some above zero. From Phoenix render settings, change the smoke opacity from simple smoke to smoke. Then change the lowest value from the left curve point to 0.02 or something similar and your grid is filled with smoke.

      thank you

i tried it did not work at all. Visually in 3ds max viewport nothing changed and we tried to render nothing there. maybe because we use octane renderer to render

By the way is there any way to manually fill the sim box and then just play that one .aur file every frame like stationary

Simulate one frame and in the input panel set to cache index and leave on the frame you have simmed
