  • Velocity Threshold for Foam

I can't figure out how to properly adjust this. I've read the help file, and saw that a fresh grid starts the threshold at 50 meters. Does that mean the water has to be moving at 50 m/s before it will cause foam? I keep adjusting it but don't see much of a difference in the simulations.

    Hey,

Can you share a screenshot of your setup and your settings? The threshold should work unless there is something interesting going on, but I can't really guess what it could be from scratch.

    Cheers!

I'm more just interested in what that setting does. I don't fully understand. Read the help doc, but still don't get it. It starts off at 50 M, but we have to drag it down to like 1(ish) M to get a different effect.

Ah, I know why this is - 3ds Max defaults it to the units you are working in - if you are in centimeters or inches, it will be 50 cm or 50 inches by default, but if you are in meters, it's 50 meters by default which is waaaay to much. I did a similar fix for the default of the ocean texture size and seems like this one needs it as well.

The setting itself controls in how many places the foam will be born by natural conditions - the lower you set it, the more foam it will produce. It's not actually tied only to the velocity, so maybe we should change it to "Birth Threshold" instead.
