  • Solid to fluid? Gradually melt an object via object / texture?

    Heya folks!

I wanted to add something in to a shot in work where I was going to have something gradually start to melt. Is it possible to use initial fill up to start from a mesh and then use another object which only contains temperature to gradually start changing it to a liquid?

    Cheers!

Ooh, as a side note, it'd be brilliant to have that take uv's from the source mesh so I can camera project footage and have it slide slowly with the fluid - trying to do an ugly skin melting effect

That's probably something better handled with a particle system. Not sure if you're using Max or Maya but in Max it's fairly easy to create a pflow that will slowly dissolve an object, and it can be driven via a texture. Then you could assign the dissolved portion of the object as a phoenix liquid source.

It was less a dissolve, more like something gradually running down itself - think a candle melting type of thing!

Don't think so - only way I can think of in PhoenixFD is to hack it with a source object that is being made smaller, and liquid emitting from that.

          So it's only faking it.

Not sure if Lucid could do it, it can change states from liquids to solids, but not sure if it can be gradual/mapped.

Thanks for the sneaky idea Steve!

No problem, hope they introduce mapped viscosity at some point...

Was looking for a melting effect in Phoenix too...this guy seems to have done it.. https://vimeo.com/293338331

Originally what I wanted to do with this has have a tracked mesh of a soldier who'd been roasted by one of the dragons in game of thrones, there was a shot where one of them is pulling his helmet off and I wanted to have his skin melting a bit, pity I didn't have this at the time!
