  • Water with turbulence and positive gravity.

    Hello Guys,

Im experimenting with an effect, but I dont have really any good results.
Can I actually add turbulence and more effects to Phoenix FD?

Do you have any Idea how to do this?

    1. Water on the floor.
    2. The water starts to go vertically in the positive gravity direction.
    http://www.class-a-strak.com/FAQ/Pho...X_01___001.jpg

    3. Add wind to the water particles that come out from the floor. The wind comes from the right to the left.
    http://www.class-a-strak.com/FAQ/Pho...X_01___002.jpg

    4. The object pass thru and the water particles get affected from th added wind.
    http://www.class-a-strak.com/FAQ/Pho...X_01___003.jpg

Do you have any Idea how to do this?
At the end suppose I suppose to dont have any water at the floor.

    Hi,

these are the answers based on your questions above:

    1. You can use Initial fill up option to fill the container up to a certain level. You can find this in Dynamics roll-out in Max or Liquid roll-out in Maya.
    2. There are two ways for this effect - make negative gravity or make zero gravity and add a Body force helper.
    3. For directional force (like the wind), you can use a Phoenix Plain force. It's easy to navigate the direction and its intensity. Also, you can add a Phoenix Turbulence force for creating some random swirling.
    4. Every solid object can affect the liquid by default unless it's added in an exclusion list or it's converted to "non-solid" from Phoenix object properties menu.

      Hi George,

I will give a try now.
I found out how to make + gravity, but that was all.
      I really appreciate your help.

I'll give you some additional materials from our docs page which I think would help you. Just tell me what software do you use - Max or Maya?

          Hi George Barzinski.
          I will really appreciate that.
BTW I work with MaYa 2017.

I played in these days with your tips and I get something interesting.
My only problem is the wind effect.
The Plain Force somehow doesnt work will I have a Body Force Helper.

I will upload a screenshot to the result I have at the moment.

The ball is moving from the left to right and as you can see the water follows the ball direction and suppose the water to fly in the other direction.

Do you know why the simulation take too long?
EDIT: Im using 2 steps for the simulation BTW.

          20 frames with 16 000 000 particles takes like a 4 minutes on a:
          Windows 10
          nVidia Quadro 4000
          Intel Xeon E5-2683 v4 @ 2.10 GHz

            Hi,

you can try to decrease Motion Inertia parameter in Dynamics roll-out. This will make the water less affected by the motion of the ball and combining this with Body Force or Plain Force with enough strength should do the trick. I think your simulation time is pretty good for a grid with 16 000 000 cells.

              Hi George,

WOW!!! I never seeing this before.
              Thank you for the links.
I will have a look on it.

I really appreciate your time and help.

Nice mate! Great result. Optionally you can smooth the liquid a little bit more with Mesh Smoothness parameter in Rendering -->Mesh roll-out menu. Also, you can share your final result in our facebook group and exchange some knowledge with our community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/233735903483447/

                    Glad you like it!
Still to change a couple of things, but at least happens what I expected.

Now is time to move to another test.
I am newbie on this and I have a long path to learn.

I will post a image on the Phoenix Facebook. Thank you for the link.

                      Hi George,
May I ask you what kind of computer should I have to make the simulation calculate faster?

                      My specs:
                      Dynamic simulation: 2 steps
                      20 frames with 16 000 000 particles takes like a 3 minutes on a:
                      Windows 10
                      nVidia Quadro 4000
                      Intel Xeon E5-2683 v4 @ 2.10 GHz

Is there anything I can do to get the particles calculate faster?
In your videos the simulation runs extremely fast.
I know you have a much better computer, but what kind of computer?

Any help on this I will really appreciate.

                        Hi, there!

Firstable I want to notice that some of our simulations in video tuts are played faster and there's also a sign in the right bottom corner which indicated that. That's because no body would watch a tutorial with 30 min simulation in it It's boring.
So, how to make your simulation faster? In your case Grid Resolution (the cell count) and Steps per Frame (SPF) are the parameters which will make your sim faster or slower BUT also, the final result depends on them. That's really important. For tests you can make the resolution about 2 - 3 million cells and reduce SPF to 1. The result would be a much faster simulation but not so detailed but it's a test after all. Higher SPF = smoother liquid. There's a video example of this parameter.

                          Hi George!
Thank you for all the info.

Now I understand does 2 ►► on the Chaos Group videos.
I didnt know what that means. I know it is forward, but not speed altered. LOL!

Thank you for your support. Love Chaos Group, V-Ray and Phoenix for MaYa !

                          EDIT:
                          Hi George again.

Could you please move the STEPS of the Simulation information a little bit more to the bottom after the View Port Info from MaYa?
I know. Nobody use that info, but unfortunatelly I need to use.

Is extremely hard to see which step is doing the simulation.
