    Hello community,

    We are doing liquid simulations of vessels in an infinite ocean with ocean mesh/OceanTex. All goes fine. But we have the following plan that gives us some trouble.

    We want to duplicate a single simulation that has its data already generated and reuse it in order to place multiple vessels in 1 infinite ocean.

    When we instance the simulation we have the problem that the ocean mesh is duplicated as well. So double mesh, rendering trouble. We only want 1 mesh used by several duplicates of 1 sim.

    When we copy the simulation, we cannot reload the data of the original simulation somehow without it being simulated again.

    What we try to achieve is individually presimulating let's say 4 different vessels and put them in a library. When we have a new project we would like to be able to reuse the simulation data in another context with many vessels in 1 scene without having to resimulate them again.

    Hopefully you understand what we are trying to do. Does anyone know how.

    Hello,

    Phonix FD for 3dsMax supports that. Create a simulator in an Ocean Mesh mode with a Phoenix ocean texture as a displacement map. Then copy the simulator or create a new one in Ocean Mesh mode too. When you start rendering it would merge the simulators and use one of them as a Master container providing the material and settings. Note that container instancing is not supported. Also, merging multiple simulators is available for 3dsMax only. We are working for providing this option in Maya too.

      Thank you for the quick response. It works, but only if we resimulate the newly copied simulation. We want to reuse the old data. Do you understand what i'm saying ?

          Hello George,

          So we simulate a boat in Ocean Mesh mode with a Phoenix ocean texture as a displacement map. We try to copy that boat and its simulation with simulation data. We want this boat to be in the same infinite ocean as the original using same *.aur files as the original. Is this possible ?

            Sure, you just need to point the path in the Input rollout to the cache sequence.
