  • Static mesh for Boolean ops (Maya)

    Hello,
Is there a way to access the [static mesh] output from fluids in Maya for Boolean operations?

Astounded how brilliant Phoenix is in general, and CUDA rendering of fluids has really saved the day on a current deadline
Unfortunately the Phoenix cutter is a bit crashy at the moment and from what I understand isn't good for meshes anyway. Isosurface or Volumetrics are no good for CUDA, so the last option may be boolean ops on the mesh but I'm not sure it's accessible?
Had a similar scenario last year with NParticles which got solved using Alembic and animated booleans in C4D

    Any advice super-appreciated.

    Hey,

In Maya Mesh mode you should be able to apply Booleans, however currently it has no moblur at render time. Is it possible to share a scene where you get crashes with the cutter? We definitely have to fix that,

    Cheers!

Absolutely, and thank you ! I'll simplify one and send it to support.

(and good grief.. I didn't think about [Maya Mesh] mode. How embarassing ..)

Well, the Maya mesh > Boolean worked as expected Unfortunately that means dreadfully bad.
dropping errors every nth frame Not the fault of Phoenix at all - Maya's Booleans are famously diabolical.

SO, back to the drawing board with looming deadline. I've been attempting all morning to get a particular scene to work with a crashing cutter with no luck.
The positive side: I have a bug test scene for you with a consistently crashing cutter Uploaded to support now
