  • Simulating a lake like water surface - please help!

    Hello there,
were in the middle of the project where were building a house on the lake and there it may be we might not get away with its water "simulated" by animating noise modifier (no matter how layered or complex)

    I came to this tutorial
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=Ia_rpv29e_Y

which possibly could lead me to a nice lake water but i am facing two obstacles:

    1. my scene must remain in CM
    2. last time i played with ocean tex, i got really unsatisfactory results and furthermore i really have no idea how to animate the solution OR i have no idea how long it will take to simulate/render since its dependent on the displacement - i really have no experience doing this.

Is there any tutorial out there which has a nice lake like behaving water? Something like this?

Perhaps using a Phoenix for this is an overkill and animating noise woudl do the trick?

    Thanks for any leads,
    Martin

You really cant go wrong with the Phoenix Ocean texture for this. Just adjust the wind speed to get the scale you want. Either use that on a phoenix in pure ocean mode or just stick it on a vray displacement mod using the same texture. If you do use Phoenix you can create dummy geometry to mimic flat areas in the waves too, use it in the fade volume bit in the displacement options of phoenix.

The texture is animated by default, adjust the speed accordingly of the texture

        Thanks a lot!
I am having a play with it already.
Since my scene is in centimeters, i have to play a little with the correct phoenix ocean tes scaling to fit in well but its not bad a all.
Do i have to set any animation keays or something?
i am just using a plane and ocean tex added to it as i dont need simulating anything..

Ok so working in CM system units scale gives very unexpected results.
Following various tutorials where they all work with METERS its impossible to follow with the same results.

is there any trickery when trying to setup the same ocean texture but in CM?
I tried tweaking world units in the texture and give it a different wind speed and wave height but i am getting unsatisfactory output for the phoenix ocean tex to behave like more or less still lake.
            i Followed this here:

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5425bK6-d6A

i ve noticed i cant even get the texture look in the mat editor as the guy in the video does.
            any clues?

            Cheers!

              Hey,

Can you show us your settings and the results you are getting?
