  • Point render crashing (interactive and batch) when motion blur enabled

    Hi,

I'm using Maya 2018 and phoenix 3.10. I'm rendering out points in vray, and when I turn on motion blur, the render crashes. This only happens when the particle age export (in the foam shader) is enabled (which took me a while to figure out since it doesn't make any sense to me). I am working around it for now but it's probably a good idea to solve it; hopefully you can reproduce it...

    Thanks!

    Eric

    Hey,
Can you try the scene with a latest nightly build? We made a lot of fixes since 3.10.
If the crash is still reproducible, please send the scene to support@chaosgroup.com with a link to this thread and we will take a look.

    Thank you,

Actually I tried upgrading to Phoenix 3.11 last month from 3.10. I did this to fix the problem of the particle color ramp (driven by age) not working in 3.10. The color ramp problem was fixed in 3.11.

However in version 3.11 the particle age export was broken; it just never rendered the age pass. So we downgraded back to 3.10. Can you verify that the age pass export is working in the latest version?

The age pass is nice but if I had to choose I would rather have motion blur working Thanks for the quick response!!

        Hey,

Which particle color ramp do you mean?

In order to use the Particle Shader's Particle Age channel, now you have to switch on 'Render as Geometry'. We have to check if this can still work without it...

        Cheers!
