  • Vray Next Standalone - Linux, "Warning. Failed to create object of type "PhoenixFDSim"

    Hello,
I'm currently trying to render some smoke with Vray Standalone for Linux (vrscene file exported from 3ds max),
unfortunately I'm getting these error messages, the SAME vrscene works fine if I render it with vray Standalone for Windows:

Can you give me any leads where this could come from? As I said the same file works fine under standalone for windows.
I'm trying to render a simple smoke stack cached as .aur files, exported with the .vrscene exporter for 3ds max.

    thanks

    Hey,

You must have Phoenix installed for Linux as well. It won't need a license for rendering and you could just install a trial Phoenix, but the plugin must be there, or V-Ray won't be able to render it.

Since it's Linux, you will need to install Phoenix for Maya.

Something you could try as a workaround depends on what you render - if you only have smoke and fire, or meshed fluid, you could export the Phoenix simulator as a V-Ray VolumeGrid and this way you won't need the Phoenix plugin. However, if you have any Particle Shaders, they would only render with Phoenix installed. You can enable exporting Phoenix as a VolumeGrid from the settings of the Phoenix atmosphere in Max.

    Hope this helps!

      Hello Svetlin,
thank you! That clears up a lot of open questions. I'll just install phoenix for Linux.

      Thanks!

        Hey Svetlin,
        I'm encountering another problem...

So when I export it as a VrayVolumeGrid it seems to work fine but JUST after it finishes rendering, Vray Crashes with this error:

Do you have any Idea where this can come from?

Also, where is the default location for the Vray Render logs under Linux?

        Kind Regards,
        Robert

          Hello,
The render logs should be located in the "Tmp" folder. It would be great if you can send us those.

          Thank you,

Hello gregori, out of pure intuition I've checked that location already but there is no log file saved there that is related to Vray.
Here you can see Vray rendering via deadline but no log file is generated in the TMP directory. The error btw. is totally reproducible with every frame.

I guess the deadline logs arent as "verbose" as the Vray logs? because these I could get.

Do I need to enable logging somehow? I could give you remote desktop access to those rendernodes btw via public IP adress.

            Thanks for caring!
