  • PHX_Texmap not working

Can't get PhoenixFDTexmap to work. I'm trying to do a really simple thing, where the PHX_Texmap is used to mask two materials.
I know, that if I use temperature channel, I need to decrease the output values to get temperature map to decent levels. But it just doesnt work.
Even if I try to use any other channels - rendering smokecolor, grid smoke or grid fuel, nothing shows up.

Could you check that it's still working or give me an example scene how to do it?

    Hey,

Sounds like more of a scene specific thing - we have tests with grid texture and they do work currently. Do you have something like.. motion blur maybe? I remember we had some issues with this combination but they should be resolved now.

    Cheers!

Hmm, weird. I just did a very simple test scene for it and didn't get it to work.
No motion blur or anything special.

Ah, got it working. Texmap coordinates default is Object XYZ, which doesn't work.
I thought that I tried everything, but maybe I missed that part.

Hmmm, could it be that if you are using the grid tex to a material that goes onto a geometry, in Object XYZ it samples the simulator as if it the simulator was stretched into the bounding box of the geometry? While in world XYZ, the geometry would read the grid tex data at positions that are really over the respective simulator voxels...

            I see. That makes sense.

It would be really nice to have better tools to operate with different grid values. Getting useful values out from temperature map is really ridiculous.
In my setup temperature map goes to output, where output value is set to 0.001. Then it is sent to mixmap where its easier to control with curves. And doing all the that without any visual feedback.
That data from different channels are presented well in Phoenix rendering panel. It would be nice to have same kind of visualisation in texmap also. Or then some quick solutions like "autolevel", that could get the temperature in current frame and crush it to 0-1 value.

I don't know. It's just so time consuming trying to get right values out from Texmap.

Copy that, normalizing the grid tex values is something already in the TODO list...
