large backup sim files

Hi
Why are backup files are so large. This causes GPU renderer to fail too, Anyway to make them smaller/

Anyway to turn backup sims to regular sim files without resimming the whole thing?

Hey,

It happens because the backup frames are keeping all the needed data for the simulation so you can do a simulation restore from this point.

The Temperature and Velocity channels will always be recorded in the backup frames although they are not checked for export.

If you have a really large grid with a lot of empty space and smoke here and there - the regular frames will be compressed well while the backup ones will remain large. Can you show us your grid and its settings?

If you don't need backup frames you can set the Backup Interval value to 0 and they won't be recorded.

Another thing you can do is to lower your Storage quality but this might lead to some artifacts so you should be careful.
