  • Licence release

    Hello,

We have licence problems between our SFX team (working with phoenix) and our lighting team (rendering scene with phoenix).
We tried to install a render only version of phoenix on the lighting team, but it doesn't seems to change anything, if they select a phoenix cage, they have access to anything and they pick up a licence.
Unfortunately, if they unselect phoenix, the licence is lock on their machine and not released, so then the SFX team is missing licences.

Do you have any tricks to release a licence (script or whatever) ?

    Thanks !

Hey, so Phoenix has Simulation licenses and GUI licenses. Rendering does not engage a license, but selecting the simulator engages a GUI license. When 3ds Max is shut down, the license would be released immediately, or if the license connection drops for some reason, the license server will cut the connection in about a minute.

What I can think of in your case as a workaround would be to convert the Phoenix grids into V-Ray VolumeGrids, save render presets from Phoenix and load these presets into the volume grids. There are maxscript functions you could use to automate preset saving and loading and it should be fairly easy to setup.

    Cheers!
