  • Phoenix clouds still noisy

No matter what I do, light cache speed up: 0.005. Alter the scattering to raytraced (not scattering related afaik). Increase step% to 2000 (this helps but still noisy occurs), raise the lightcache to 3000 I still get noise in the cloud. Not soft fluffy clouds. Any ideas ?

What if you set the Light cache speedup to 0 or turn it off from the checkbox?

I tried turning it off but it goes from fairly quick to super slow. I might need a scene with a lot of clouds and this would not be workable. I'll try 0 tomorrow

Yup, turn it off completely, render with progressive, and definitely give the atmosphere probabilistic volumetrics option a shot, adjusting the gi samples to an optimal value - too low will be slow and too high will be slow as well.

You need to generally keep Use LC off with phoenix clouds - its slow, but better than flickering.
Can only be used for stills

Actually the more intuitive way to think about it is that volume light cache starts producing voxel artifacts as the light complexity increases and the number of volume in the scene increases, so that bounces between volumes are introducing noise into the volume light cache.

This is usually the case with clouds that require many containers, but with a simple light might not appear, or can be made to appear with a single volume in a complex environment with many area lights.
