  • Vray Dirt and Phoenix FD 3dsmax - AO pass renders phoenix sim black

    Hello Everyone,

Can't find any info on this. When I renderpass VRAYExtraTex I try to exclude the Phoenix smoke sim. But it still renders it as black. (See attached). Any way to make the sim white or not render at all?
I did use "exclude PhoenixFDFire001 from" in both the ExtraTex dialog and the Vray Dirt element dialog but no luck.

    (I'm using 3dsmax 2015, Vray Adv 3.60.04, Phoenix 3.11.00, Build ID: 20180531)

    Any advice or preferred method?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

Any way to make the sim white
There is a way but it's a tad messy - be warned

You could add all objects except the volumetrics in your scene to the Dirt Texture's "Exclude..". and "Result affect..." lists. You should set the lists to Include mode from the window that pops up when you click the button.

Then, set the Render Mode of the Volume Grids / Simulators to Volumetric Geometry.

Finally, you should set the Unoccluded color to Black, and the Occluded to White - this will give you a white mask for the occluded areas -- therefore, you will need to flip the colors in the compositing package you are using to get the actual Amb.Occlusion.

    Hope that helps!
